On May 10th, the SDU eScience Center was visited by colleagues from Aarhus University and Aalborg University for a Back Office workshop in the DeiC Interactive HPC consortium. The DeiC Interactive HPC Back Office collaborates on the development and operation of the facility.

The overall topic of the workshop was “Developing UCloud apps” and discussion points included development tools, development workflow, deployment of apps on UCloud, to name a few.

“The main focus of the workshop was to share our knowledge and experience in developing applications for UCloud with other members of the consortium. During the lessons we took a specific use case to demonstrate all the steps of the app development workflow, doing a live coding session with all the participants,” says Emiliano Molinaro, team leader for the user support team at the SDU eScience Center.

Since the beginning of 2022, a number of workshops have been organised in the DeiC Interactive HPC consortium. Due to the corona pandemic, organising in-person workshops was not a possibility for a long time after the National HPC systems first launched in November 2020. Luckily this is no longer the case.

“We gained insight into the process that applications go through before becoming available on UCloud. We are now ready to contribute to various tasks in maintaining, developing, and introducing new apps,” says Kristian Mide Andersen, systems administrator at CLAAUDIA Infrastructure, AAU.

The workshop was successful in fostering new ideas to collaborate more efficiently and improve the overall workflow,” says Emiliano Molinaro.

More workshops will be organised in the DeiC Interactive HPC consortium to further strengthen the collaboration and coordination between the partnering universities. In fact another workshop with focus on improving the integration between the AAU and SDU site already took place in June, and we are planning more workshops in the fall.
