DeiC Interactive HPC/UCloud
For large projects (where you need more than 50.000 CPU-hours, 5.000 GPU-hours and/or 50TB of data every 6 months), it is SDU’s policy that SDU researchers must submit an equivalent application to DeiC.
For the period 1st of January to 30th of June 2026, SDU is suspending this requirement for DeiC Interactive HPC/UCloud resources.
From 1st of January to 30th of June 2026, SDU opens a call:
- which is continuously open until all available resources for the period are allocated.
- where cut-off dates for applications are the 1st and the 15th of every month, starting from 15th of January 2026.
- where you can expect a reply to your application within two weeks from the cut-off date.
For large projects starting/continuing from 1st of July 2026 on DeiC Interactive HPC/UCloud, the requirement that you submit an equivalent application to DeiC will be enforced again. It is expected that DeiC will open the next national call for HPC resources in the beginning of 2026.
LUMI Capability HPC
The SDU call for large projects on the LUMI supercomputer starting 1st of January 2026 recently closed on 1st of December 2025. We have allocated resources to SDU researchers who applied for this call, but there are still available LUMI resources for the coming period.
From 1st of January to 30th of June 2026, you can therefore apply for large requests on LUMI and it will not be a requirement that you have also submitted an application to DeiC.
The new SDU call for LUMI resources is similar to the call for DeiC Interactive HPC/UCloud resources:
- the call is continuously open until all available resources for the period are allocated.
- Cut-off dates for applications are the 1st and the 15th of every month, starting from 15th of January 2026.
- You can expect a reply to your application within two weeks from the cut-off date.
Notice that SDU calls for LUMI and DeiC Interactive HPC/UCloud resources are for SDU researchers only. If you are employed at a different Danish university, please contact your local Front Office to learn about your local application procedures.
If you need less than 50.000 CPU-hours, 5.000 GPU-hours and/or 50TB of data every 6 month, your application is considered a regular project. Applications for regular projects can be submitted at any time (this applies also after 30th of June 2026). Regular projects are evaluated on a continuous basis, and evaluation should be expected within 2 weeks.
Available resources
For the present call, the following resources are available:
DeiC Interactive HPC/UCloud
DeiC Interactive HPC/UCloud is mainly focused on interactive computing and easy access for users. SDU researchers can access the cluster resources via their UCloud account.
Resources available to SDU for the first half of 2026:
- 1,000,000 CPU core hours
- 100,000 GPU core hours
LUMI Capability HPC
LUMI is an abbreviation for “Large Unified Modern Infrastructure”. LUMI is one of the three European pre-exascale supercomputers part of the EuroHPC project and located in CSC’s data center in Kajaani, Finland.
Denmark participates in the consortium behind the LUMI supercomputer. Part of the LUMI machine therefore belongs exclusively to Denmark and is, in this sense, considered a national HPC resource.
For more information on LUMI, check the official documentation here.
CPU resources available to SDU for the first half of 2026:
- 850,000 CPU core hours
- 57,000 GPU hours.
How to apply
To access LUMI you must submit an application form via our service desk.
For DeiC Interactive HPC/UCloud resources, please fill out a project application via UCloud.
If you need help or advice on how to write your application, please contact the representative from your faculty in the SDU eScience Center Operational Board:
