Towards the end of 2023, the SDU eScience Center hired three student assistans for the two teams: user support and infrastructure. With the growing interest in HPC resources at SDU – as well as interest from other universities in buying user support from the SDU eScience Center – these two teams have been needing a few extra hands to help out with the day-to-day tasks.

You can find an introduction to the three student assistants below. They have already become valuable team members!

Teodora Nikolaeva Nikolova, student assistant at the user support team

What are you studying?

I’m studying my masters in Computer Science, focusing mainly on algorithms and AI.

What do you like most about your studies?

What I enjoy most about Computer Science is how vast, diverse and interconnected it is with the rest of the world. It’s like its own universe and touches every aspect of our lives. I love the different approaches and perspectives used to solve problems of all difficulties and how creative you can get with the solutions (although some will be better than others).

Why did you want to work at the SDU eScience Center?

My ultimate goal is to help people while continuosly learning and have fun with it. This is why I find working at SDU eScience Center so attractive: apart from what I get from my studies, here I’m able to learn in a more pragmatic way, solving user specific problems and interacting with colleagues with more knowledge and experience.

How do you like to spend your spare time/any interesting hobbies?

Apart from my work and my studies, when I have some spare time I love signing up to any event that might be going on in Odense and drag my friends along. Long game evenings at Papa’s, tea gatherings, participating in club activities and baking are also in my favorites, and I’m always open to new experiences and new friends.

Mads Højsager Bjerregaard Hvegholm, student assistant at the user support team

What are you studying?

I am studying a masters degree in Computational Biomedicine, currently working towards finishing my master thesis by summer 2024.

What do you like most about your studies?

The study of living organisms has always fascinated me, specifically the biological mechanisms working at the micro-scale have always been my main point of interest. My study combines this field with the wonders of computers and statistics, allowing us to more accurately interpret the data gathered from nowadays highly precise research methods.

Why did you want to work at the SDU eScience Center?

The ability to have a study-relevant job is the dream of any student, and at the SDU eScience Center I am hopefully able to use my background in computational biomedicine, to further improve the accessibility of high computing power to the researchers who can benefit from it.

How do you like to spend your spare time/any interesting hobbies?

In my free time you’ll find me participating in dance classes at university fitness area, listing to music, playing video games, or diving into a new creative project involving 3D-printing.

Victor Magne Stuwitz Lægteskov, student assistant at the infrastructure team

What are you studying?

I’m currently studying theoretical physics on 3rd semester.

What do you like most about your studies?

A thing I really appreciate about physics is the versatility of the subject, it allows me to work on many of my hobbies from making electronics like small robotic cars, to more day to day activities like making estimations of my finances.

Why did you want to work at the SDU eScience Center?

I seeked a job at eScience to get more experience specially with supercomputing, something that’s used quite alot in computational physics.

How do you like to spend your spare time/any interesting hobbies?

I spend my free time with quite a lot, mostly mechanics or electronics. From repairing and doing modifications to cars to building instruments for finding the components of molecules. A favourite project of mine has been drawing a heart, using a projector with circuitry made by myself. And gardening, I specially love flowers.
