The resources allocated in this call will be available 1st of January 2024. Please submit your application&nbsp;<strong>no later than the 5th of October 2023<\/strong>. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Large projects are projects that require more than&nbsp;50.000 CPU-hours, 1000 GPU-hours&nbsp;and\/or&nbsp;20TB of data.<strong> Remember that a<strong> requirement for submitting an application for a large project at SDU is that the same application has been submitted to the national DeiC call<\/strong>.&nbsp;<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The deadline for applying to the current DeiC call for national resources is the <strong>5th of September 2023<\/strong>. Find out how to apply via <a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/deic.dk\/en\/supercomputing\/Apply-for-HPC-resources\" data-type=\"URL\" data-id=\"https:\/\/deic.dk\/en\/supercomputing\/Apply-for-HPC-resources\" target=\"_blank\">the DeiC website<\/a>. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote\"><p>Note that if you are applying for less than 50.000 CPU-hours, 1000 GPU-hours&nbsp;and\/or&nbsp;20TB of data, you are also welcome to submit an application during this call &#8211; in fact you can submit this type of applications (a so called regular project) at any time. Find out more about how to apply for a regular project <a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/escience.sdu.dk\/index.php\/national-hpc-systems\/\" data-type=\"URL\" data-id=\"https:\/\/escience.sdu.dk\/index.php\/national-hpc-systems\/\" target=\"_blank\">here<\/a>. <\/p><\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<h2>Available resources<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>SDU researchers can apply for resources on the following national HPC systems:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3>Type1 \u2013 DeiC Interactive HPC<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>The type 1 system is mainly focused on interactive computing and easy access for users. The system is made of the YouGene cluster hosted at SDU (see cluster specs&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/escience.sdu.dk\/?page_id=5711\">here<\/a>) and the OpenStack cluster at AAU. SDU researchers can access the cluster resources via their&nbsp;<a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/escience.sdu.dk\/index.php\/ucloud\/\" target=\"_blank\">UCloud<\/a> account.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Resources available to SDU for the first half of 2024: 1,000,000 CPU core hours and 100,000 GPU core hours.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3>Type 2 \u2013 DeiC Throughput HPC<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>This type of HPC system typically has a large number of cores&nbsp;which can be a mix between cost-effective and calculation-efficient units. Type 2 also has the ability to handle large amounts of data and its main focus is on high-throughput performance.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>There are three type 2 HPC systems available at national level for SDU researchers:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul><li><a href=\"https:\/\/escience.sdu.dk\/?page_id=5578\">Computerome 2.0<\/a><\/li><li><a href=\"https:\/\/escience.sdu.dk\/?page_id=5520\">GenomeDK<\/a><\/li><li><a href=\"https:\/\/escience.sdu.dk\/?page_id=5586\">Sophia<\/a><\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The hardware accessible to SDU users for a type 2 HPC project is shown in the table below.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-table is-style-stripes\"><table><tbody><tr><td><strong>Compurerome 2.0<\/strong><\/td><td><strong>GenomeDK<\/strong><\/td><td><strong>Sophia<\/strong><\/td><\/tr><tr><td>Xeon Gold 6230 Cascade Lake, 40 cores, 192 GB&nbsp;<\/td><td>AMD EPYC Rome 7452, 64 cores, 512 GB<\/td><td>AMD EPYC 7351, 32 cores, 128 GB<\/td><\/tr><\/tbody><\/table><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong><strong>Resources available to SDU for the first half of 2024:<\/strong><\/strong> <strong>600,000 CPU core hours.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3>Type 3 \u2013 DeiC Large Memory HPC&nbsp;<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>This type of HPC system focuses on problem solving, with a structure that cannot be easily or efficiently distributed between many computer nodes.&nbsp;This is a type of system that is characterized by typically relatively few cores with access to a large globally addressable memory area.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Type 3 is hosted and maintained at SDU. For the cluster specs check&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/escience.sdu.dk\/index.php\/type-3-large-memory-hpc\/\">here<\/a>. The user guide can be found at&nbsp;<a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/docs.hpc-type3.sdu.dk\/\" target=\"_blank\">this link<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Resources available to SDU for the first half of 2024: 600,000 core hours.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h3>LUMI Capability HPC<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>LUMI is an&nbsp;abbreviation&nbsp;for \u201cLarge Unified Modern Infrastructure\u201d. LUMI is one of the three European pre-exascale supercomputers part of the EuroHPC project and located in CSC\u2019s data center in Kajaani, Finland.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Denmark participates in the consortium behind the LUMI supercomputer. Part of the LUMI machine therefore belongs exclusively to Denmark and is, in this sense, considered a national HPC resource.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>For more information on LUMI, check the official documentation&nbsp;<a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/docs.lumi-supercomputer.eu\/\" target=\"_blank\">here<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>CPU resources available to SDU for the first half of 2024: 2,000,000 CPU core hours.<\/strong>&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>GPU resources available to SDU for <strong>the first half of 2024<\/strong>: 150,000 GPU hours.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2>How to apply<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>For large projects, SDU researchers must send both:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul><li>A filled out application form for a large projects, where they specify the amount of resources asked for. Note that the amount of resources asked for will be different from the national call. Only one form is needed even if the applicant is asking for compute time on more than one system.&nbsp;<\/li><li>The applications (one or more) they used for the DeiC national call.
