{"id":7908,"date":"2024-10-04T09:07:19","date_gmt":"2024-10-04T09:07:19","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/escience.sdu.dk\/?post_type=news&#038;p=7908"},"modified":"2024-10-16T07:01:31","modified_gmt":"2024-10-16T07:01:31","slug":"only-a-few-hpc-resources-left-for-2024-sdu-researchers-only","status":"publish","type":"news","link":"http:\/\/escience.sdu.dk\/index.php\/news\/only-a-few-hpc-resources-left-for-2024-sdu-researchers-only\/","title":{"rendered":"Only a few HPC resources left for 2024 (SDU researchers only)"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>There are still resources left on some of the different HPC types, but hurry up and apply now as the pool of resources for the remaining months of 2024 is shrinking!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>You can still apply for:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3>Type1 \u2013 DeiC Interactive HPC<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Resources available: 500,000 CPU core hours and 230,000 GPU hours.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The type 1 system is mainly focused on interactive computing and easy access for users. The system is made of the YouGene cluster hosted at SDU (see cluster specs&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/escience.sdu.dk\/?page_id=5711\">here<\/a>) and the OpenStack cluster at AAU. SDU researchers can access the cluster resources via their&nbsp;<a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/escience.sdu.dk\/index.php\/ucloud\/\" target=\"_blank\">UCloud<\/a>&nbsp;account.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em>NB: Due to limited resources, it is not possible to ask for more than 50TB of data on Type1 via the DeiC funds. If you would like to pay for resources on Type1 via your research grant, please contact our service desk.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3><strong>Type 2 \u2013 DeiC Throughput HPC<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Resources available:<\/strong>&nbsp;<strong>200,000 CPU core hours.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This type of HPC system typically has a large number of cores&nbsp;which can be a mix between cost-effective and calculation-efficient units. Type 2 also has the ability to handle large amounts of data and its main focus is on high-throughput performance.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>There are three type 2 HPC systems available at national level for SDU researchers:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul><li><a href=\"https:\/\/escience.sdu.dk\/?page_id=5578\">Computerome 2.0<\/a><\/li><li><a href=\"https:\/\/escience.sdu.dk\/?page_id=5520\">GenomeDK<\/a><\/li><li><a href=\"https:\/\/escience.sdu.dk\/?page_id=5586\">Sophia<\/a><\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>The hardware accessible to SDU users for a type 2 HPC project is shown in the table below.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-table\"><table><tbody><tr><td><strong>Compurerome 2.0<\/strong><\/td><td><strong>GenomeDK<\/strong><\/td><td><strong>Sophia<\/strong><\/td><\/tr><tr><td>Xeon Gold 6230 Cascade Lake, 40 cores, 192 GB<\/td><td>AMD EPYC Rome 7452, 64 cores, 512 GB<\/td><td>AMD EPYC 7351, 32 cores, 128 GB<\/td><\/tr><\/tbody><\/table><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator\"\/>\n\n\n\n<p>Access the HPC Type 2 facilities by submitting an\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/escience.sdu.dk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/06\/Template_regular-project-application-form.docx\">application form<\/a>\u00a0via our\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/support.escience.sdu.dk\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">service desk<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3><strong>Type 3 \u2013 DeiC Large Memory HPC&nbsp;<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Resources available: 600,000 CPU core hours.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This type of HPC system focuses on problem solving, with a structure that cannot be easily or efficiently distributed between many computer nodes.&nbsp;This is a type of system that is characterized by typically relatively few cores with access to a large globally addressable memory area.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Type 3 is hosted and maintained at SDU.
