{"id":8222,"date":"2025-12-12T07:50:18","date_gmt":"2025-12-12T07:50:18","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/escience.sdu.dk\/?post_type=news&#038;p=8222"},"modified":"2026-01-16T12:40:27","modified_gmt":"2026-01-16T12:40:27","slug":"temporary-change-in-sdu-policy-for-large-hpc-applications-applies-for-spring-period-2026","status":"publish","type":"news","link":"http:\/\/escience.sdu.dk\/index.php\/news\/temporary-change-in-sdu-policy-for-large-hpc-applications-applies-for-spring-period-2026\/","title":{"rendered":"Temporary change in SDU policy for large HPC applications (applies for spring period 2026)"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3>DeiC Interactive HPC\/UCloud<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>For large projects (where you need more than 50.000 CPU-hours, 5.000 GPU-hours&nbsp;and\/or&nbsp;50TB of data every 6 months), it is SDU&#8217;s policy that SDU researchers must submit an equivalent application to DeiC.   <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>For the period 1st of January to 30th of June 2026<\/strong>,<strong> SDU is suspending this requirement for DeiC Interactive HPC\/UCloud resources. <\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>From 1st of January to 30th of June 2026, SDU opens a call: <\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul><li>which is continuously open until all available resources for the period are allocated.&nbsp;<\/li><li><span>where<b> <\/b><\/span>cut-off dates for applications are the <strong>1st and the 15th of every month, starting from 15th of January 2026<\/strong>.<\/li><li>where you can expect a reply to your application within two weeks from the cut-off date. <\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>For large projects starting\/continuing from 1st of July 2026 on DeiC Interactive HPC\/UCloud, the requirement that you submit an equivalent application to DeiC will be enforced again. It is expected that DeiC will open the next national call for HPC resources in the beginning of 2026.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3>LUMI Capability HPC<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>The SDU call for large projects on the LUMI supercomputer starting 1st of January 2026 recently closed on 1st of December 2025. We have allocated resources to SDU researchers who applied for this call, but there are still available LUMI resources for the coming period. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>From 1st of January to 30th of June 2026, you can therefore apply for large requests on LUMI and it will not be a requirement that you have also submitted an application to DeiC.  <\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The new SDU call for LUMI resources is similar to the call for DeiC Interactive HPC\/UCloud resources: <\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul><li>the call is continuously open until all available resources for the period are allocated.&nbsp;<\/li><li>Cut-off dates for applications are the 1st and the 15th of every month, starting from 15th of January 2026. <\/li><li>You can expect a reply to your application within two weeks from the cut-off date.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote\"><p><\/p><p>Notice that SDU calls for LUMI and DeiC Interactive HPC\/UCloud resources are for SDU researchers only. If you are employed at a different Danish university, please contact your <a href=\"https:\/\/deic.dk\/en\/get-help\" data-type=\"URL\" data-id=\"https:\/\/deic.dk\/en\/get-help\">local Front Office<\/a> to learn about your local application procedures.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote\"><p>If you need less than&nbsp;50.000 CPU-hours, 5.000 GPU-hours&nbsp;and\/or&nbsp;50TB of data every 6 month, your application is considered a&nbsp;regular project.&nbsp;Applications for regular projects can be submitted at any time (this applies also after 30th of June 2026). Regular projects&nbsp;are evaluated on a continuous basis, and&nbsp;evaluation should be expected within 2 weeks.&nbsp;<\/p><\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<h2>Available resources&nbsp;<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>For the present call, the following resources are available:&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3>DeiC Interactive HPC\/UCloud<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>DeiC Interactive HPC\/UCloud is mainly focused on interactive computing and easy access for users. SDU researchers can access the cluster resources via their&nbsp;<a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/escience.sdu.dk\/index.php\/ucloud\/\" target=\"_blank\">UCloud<\/a>&nbsp;account.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Resources available to SDU for the&nbsp;first&nbsp;half of 2026:&nbsp;<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul><li><strong>1,000,000 CPU core hours<\/strong><\/li><li><strong>100,000 GPU core hours<\/strong><\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h3>LUMI Capability HPC<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>LUMI is an&nbsp;abbreviation&nbsp;for \u201cLarge Unified Modern Infrastructure\u201d. LUMI is one of the three European pre-exascale supercomputers part of the EuroHPC project and located in CSC\u2019s data center in Kajaani, Finland.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Denmark participates in the consortium behind the LUMI supercomputer.
