On the 15th of November, we welcomed two new employees: Vincent Ellis and Jan Lucca Thümmel. Vincent is our new systems administrator in the Infrastructure Team, and Jan is our new student assistant in the user support team.
Vincent Ellis, systems administrator, Infrastructure Team
What is your background and areas of expertise?
I have a degree in computer science and a certification as Google Cloud Architect. I also have a strong knowledge and passion for the field of security.
Why did you want to work at the SDU eScience Center?
I wanted to join the team at SDU eScience because of my own passion for science and because it is a great opportunity for me to learn from a team of very talented individuals with a lot of experience working with HPC’s and complex infrastructure.
How do you like to spend your spare time/any interesting hobbies?
In my own time I enjoy cooking with friends or family, a healthy discussion and playing or listening to music.

What are you studying?
I’m studying Computer Science at the University of Southern Denmark, currently in my 5th semester.
What do you like most about your studies?
I enjoy the problem-solving aspect and the opportunity to learn and tackle new challenges. I also like applying my theoretical knowledge to real-world use cases.
Why did you want to work at the SDU eScience Center?
The SDU eScience Center offers a unique opportunity to use the skills from my degree in a real-world setting, while also learning many new things.
How do you like to spend your spare time/any interesting hobbies?
In my spare time, I enjoy running, cycling, or going to the gym to stay active. I also like exploring new technologies and working on small side projects. Spending time with my friends is also important to me.
